In The Style Of... Len Annois
Come and join us at our brand new art gallery on Hunter Street every fortnight for some fun and relaxed art classes.
We will give you all the tools to successfully create your very own picture that you can take home and keep!
If you draw like a 2-year-old, then that's a-ok 'cos we are all about interpretation and connection with art - not how well you can draw.
+ Afternoon tea (either a savoury or sweet plate that includes cake, biscuits, fruit, crackers, hummus, olives and vege sticks)
+ Unlimited Cafe-style drinks (all the tea varieties, barista coffee, soft drinks, etc)
+ All materials required
How do the classes work:
Each class starts with a mini art-history lecture on the artist in focus, and an introduction to the techniques we'll be using in the class. We get to know each other a little bit before we get into the warm-up sketching rounds. After the initial warm-up sketching, we do a collaborative drawing, followed then by the main piece of the afternoon. The final piece might take you longer to complete than the time in the class allows so don't rush it - the idea is to have fun, get an idea of the techniques, make some friends and get creative.
Please note - some of these classes can get messy. We do use a variety of materials including ink, acrylic or oil paint, charcoal and more, so don't wear anything that you might be upset if it gets dirty. We do have some aprons available.
Who is Len Annois:
Len Annois (1906-1966) was an engineer and a concrete salesman who lost his job in the depression and like many of us turned to art to cope. He worked in water colour, murals, illustrated army aircrafts and went on to win the Wynn prize in 1961 and 1964 but his landscapes weren't the typical sunburnt plains of the era - come along to find out more and have a play with water colour and landscapes.
Featured Work: "A view of Toledo" on the AGNSW website here: https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/collection/works/8709/
SenOpsis is located at 3/810 Hunter St Newcastle West, on the corner of Florence St. We are the first block after the Newcastle Interchange on Hunter St, and there's a bus stop directly out the front of the gallery so it's super easy to public transport it in. If you're driving in there is free on-street parking after 12pm on Saturdays on Hunter St and on the surrounding blocks, but if you prefer a parking station there is one behind the old Spotlight building that is $8 for the whole day, and there is one at the Newcastle Interchange (entrance from Maitland Rd) that has $5 all-day parking on weekends.
We cannot wait to see you there!
